GIQ - Standard 11 Induction Course


GIQ stands of General Induction Queensland. This course is like a mining passport for Queensland which has been witnessing explosive investments by both government and private sector companies since the past 1 decade and their spending seems to have no boundaries. This course imbibes many such training activities which are directly linked with work site safety and promoting a healthy work environment. The participants are helped in developing skills which
essential to mining industry like risk control, safety, emergency response, communication and hazard identification.

Key Subject Areas Covered in GIQ Courses Training

The GIQ course includes an industry specific module, core learning, and an optional underground elective.
Participants are assessed throughout the course against the following units of competency:

Surface

  • RIIOHS201A – Work safely and follow OHS policies and procedures
  • RIIERR205A – Apply initial response First Aid
  • RIIGOV201A – Comply with site work processes/procedures
  • RIIRIS201A – Conduct local risk control
  • RIICOM201A – Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIERR302A – Respond to local emergencies and incidents


Additional unit for Underground

RIIERR203A – Escape from a hazardous situation unaided


Across Australia hence a GIQ certified personnel can work anywhere but Queensland give special preference to those having this training under their sleeves. The duration of GIQ is of 2 days and is usually organized on Friday’s and Saturday’s. It can be taken across all the cities especially mining towns.  In fact this course also increases your employment and your wages per hour simply because a GIQ trained person can be easily promoted as a supervisor or head safety inspector for the work site. So for  a 2 day training, this course really helps with your mining career.
